Addition of New Port Replication Panels Broadens Nexans’ Range of Solutions

Nexans has added a 5U and a 1U version to their suite of port replication panels. The new units complement the 10U panel introduced earlier this year. Because they use the same port blades as the original, customer procedures for ordering, inventory, installation and operations are all simplified.

The panels are designed to help data center service providers offering SAN and Ethernet services. These companies often need to perform moves, add, changes and troubleshooting on the ports of the core switches providing those services. Doing these operations at a passive patch panel helps reduce the risk of errors that could have a significant impact on traffic. Covering a variety of applications, Nexans’ product suite of port replication panel now provides an exact representation of switch inputs anywhere within the data center network.

Brooke Ford, Product Manager – Fiber Connectivity for Nexans Data Center Solutions, says the addition of these two panels to the portfolio enables Nexans to provide the full range of solutions its customers demand.

“Now, service providers are able to cover not only the aggregation point for large SAN and network switches but also the port extensions of those switches out to the edge of the network and at end customer interfaces,” Brooke says. “For demanding customer applications like these, we can’t just think in terms of products – our customers need us to deliver full end-to-end solutions.”

The 5U replication panel offers a similar design and many of the same features as the 10U version. Available with 64- and 48-port configurations, it is designed for replication of the Brocade 8510-4 SAN Director but is also applicable to other switch types. Port blades and labeling text are rotated 90 degrees for horizontal installation, while vertical cable management features are integrated inside the panel for additional strain-relief options.

The 1U port replication panel provides port extension of the 10U and 5U blades for SAN or Ethernet applications anywhere at the edge of the data center. In a 1U footprint, it offers the same concept as the 5U horizontal replication panel, and utilizes the same service blades and labeling features with the same flexibility as the 5U and 10U panels. The blade fits efficiently into the main fiber support tray, while a cover is easily applied and removed with a snap-in feature in the rear to create an enclosure configuration.

“For demanding customer applications like these, we can’t just think in terms of products – our customers need us to deliver full end-to-end solutions.”
