New ENSPACE configuration combines industry-leading high density with ease of operation

The new ENSPACE Pre-Loaded 2U Panel, introduced in March, will allow data centers to significantly reduce panel installation time. The panels, which ship pre-loaded with 288 pre-terminatd, pre-tested LCs, can be installed almost instantaneously, saving about two hours install time per panel. For a large data center, which might install 20 panels at once, the time savings could add up to a full week of work.   The blunt ribbon tail is configurable up to 1000ft and is bulk-splice ready for termination in the data center.

“The benefit to the customer is that we’ve done the vast majority of the initial work for them. They can take this entire panel and install it very quickly,” says Brooke Ford, Product Manager – Fiber Connectivity, Nexans Data Center Solutions.

The design of the panels, and the way the fibers are routed, is what makes the ENSPACE pre-loaded panels unique.  Combining 24 modules/288 connections into a single cable, the new panels offer improved maintenance access in the rear with an efficient dual stage breakout entering the panel.  “With the new panels, the fiber management at the back of the tray is a lot easier – you’re dealing with 24 units rather than 288,” says Brooke. “It’s the way that those fibers are managed, how they get accessed and how they’re dressed in the back that makes the panel very easy to work on.”

The pre-loaded panel is ideal for hyperscale data centers and colocation providers, says Brooke. “If you have this many connections that go to one place, all aggregated together, it’s much more efficient to install a configuration like this. Just bolt it in the rack, and pull that bulk fiber to wherever it needs to go.”

For smaller data centers or colocation providers who may not require all 288 connections of the fully pre-loaded panel on Day 1, Nexans offers a ‘pay as you grow’ version that can be customized to meet changing capacity needs. This version starts with a stand-alone splice-ready ribbon module, pre-loaded with 12 LC connections to a ribbonized stub end for internal module splicing, as needed. “With this option, they don’t have to invest in an entire populated panel up front, but can add modules and splice in more customers as they grow. This offers a very efficient way to add customers and grow out the shelf,” says Brooke. “It also provides more granularity and flexibility on how they’re deploying in their data center, based on the types of customers they’re bringing in.”
